Ewing's Sarcoma Pediatric Research Program
Hope lives here.
Established in 1992, the mission of the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center is to expand treatment options for all cancer patients through investigational vaccine, gene and cellular therapies. With the ultimate goal of curing patients’ cancer, the Center provides innovative clinical trials seeking to transform cancer into a manageable condition for patients while maintaining their quality of life.
The Crystal Charity Ball funds will be used to advance new investigational treatment options for children with Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive malignant tumor of bone and soft tissue. A rare pediatric cancer, there are only 450 new cases in the U.S. each year and no cures. Two clinical trials will help fast-track FDA approval of a new vaccine therapy and targeted gene therapy. The first trial will continue a cutting-edge pediatric cancer therapy which uses personalized cancer vaccines made from patients’ own cancer tissue. The second trial provides targeted therapy to attack the so-called “Driver Gene,” resulting in tumor growth reduction. Funds will be used to provide a physician research stipend and to cover the clinical costs of the trials. Approximately 20 children ages 2 to 18 will be served.
